2010, plasma cut, patina, recycled steel drum, and bronze bowl, 36” x 36” x 10”

Both “Toltec Offering” and “Chac Mool” were inspired by Chac Mool, a stone sculpture found in many Toltec influenced archeological sites from central Mexico to as far south as Guatemala. Chac Mool is recognized by the reclining figure, with his upper back raised and head turned to right angle, elbows on ground and knees drawn up, holding a plate or bowl on the stomach.  Although over 30 representations of Chac Mool have been discovered, the meaning of the posture, the offering bowl, or the statue itself remains unknown, which is part of Allen’s fascination with this image.
