Allen was a life-long student of religion, psychology, and the pursuit of truth. Around 1998 he started attending seminars and workshops focused on peace, acceptance, and conscious living. This was right around the same time that he starting building his dream home on the Oregon Coast, with the help of his good friend Sam Vahey, renowned engineer and contractor. Experiencing the tranquility of living on a cliff overlooking the ocean, combined with the many classes he attended, he became especially interested in Tibetan Buddhist philosophy. This early sculpture composed around a found horseshoe was a tribute to his faith in the future.
