Inspired by indigenous cultures and a connection to nature, Allen’s work contains a magical mix of contemporary and ancient.
Allen visited Ruidoso, NM one 4th of July weekend when the Mescalero Apache hold their annual Ceremonial Dances and Rodeo. While there he had the opportunity to witness the coming of age ceremony of the Mescalero Apache maidens. Observing this important rite of passage and the singing and drumming of masked Mountain Spirit Dancers motivated this work.
